Master Copy - Study of Mucha's Lefevre-Utile

It was a belated decision, but I finally signed up for a traditional painting class. As an artist, it is absurd that I never learned how to use real paint. I feel that I suffered being only a digital painter, although it's that skill that is making this class a little bit easier for me in terms of knowledge in color, composition and anatomy.

In the painting class I'm taking, we were allowed to choose a master painter to copy. I decided to pick Alphonse Mucha's Lefevre Utile (1903). I loved everything about this piece, from the beauty of his model, Sarah Bernhardt, to the details and rich color of the fabrics.

Today is the last day we are working on the master copy, but once it dries I plan on taking it home to finish. As a beginner in traditional paints, the amount of detail was overwhelming so I had to pick what was most important to work on.

This is purely for educational purposes, to study and improve my skills as an artist.

Monster Challenge - Slime Woman update

To sag, or not to sag? I feel like this one is almost done; I just need to tweak the details and she'll be goop to go.

Monster Challenge - Slime Man update

Update on the slime man. Refined the colors, added some bubbles and some slime residue on the floor. If you like it, please let me know! Feedback is always welcome.

Monster Challenge - Slime Woman Update

Decided it would be more interesting to flip the picture and have her oozing off of a wall. Also changed the color from red to a shade of purplish pink. Now I just need to figure out what to do with her other arm. :/

Monster Challenge - Centaur Man Update

Fixing his pose and the anatomy of the male centaur. Blending different mammals together in a believable manner is tricky!

Monster Challenge - Slime Woman

Since the slime man is green, I decided to make the woman red (they compliment each other, see? :). Didn't want to make her too...alluring, so I warped her face. After all, she's a creature of slime. I plan on warping other parts of her too to make the substance look more convincing. Might make her a different color if she still looks too much like a pool of blood.

Monster Challenge - Slime Man

I should say slime blob, but my intention was for this creature to be male. Blocking in the jiggles on its stomach while running, but the ripple effect is a little tricky.

Sailor Moon - Transformation update

Pretty much done with this one and moving on to other things... maybe other senshi? Not sure if I want to do Usagi in her princess garb or a different sailor soldier. Decisions, decisions.

Monster Challenge - Plant Man

Skipping ahead on the list. Challenge #7, plant man (WIP). Need to fix anatomy and posture on the rock.

WIP: Sailor Moon Transformation

Revisiting my childhood with this painting of Sailor Moon transforming into her alter ego. "Moon Power, MAKE UP!" And yes, I did listen to the theme song while I made this. :3

Monster Challenge - Harpy

Decided to participate in a Monster art challenge with some friends, except while the boys paint monster girls, I'm painting monster boys (or as close to an equivalent as possible). I do plan on drawing the female creatures at some point, though.

Challenge 1 is a harpy. According to myths, they're supposed to be female, but here's my interpretation of a male harpy. I had a lot of trouble figuring out how I wanted to pose him. Flying? Perching? Swooping? Oh wait, "swooping is bad." (woo, vague game reference!)

Post Father's Day gift: Lone Mouse and Cow

Before you get any wrong ideas, I did take my dad to see Prometheus on Father's Day. This is just something I decided would be a very late gift when the idea came to me last week. It's a spoof of the classic Japanese movie, Lone Wolf and Cub, but instead of Ogami Ittō's (samurai/ronin) and Daigorō (his son), I replaced them with a mouse, which is his Chinese zodiac sign, and cow, which is mine.

Cuter interpretation:
Rat => Mouse
Ox => Cow (I was born in CA, so I'm a "happy cow," get it??)

WIP: Flower Girl (1)

Been a while, hasn't it? This is the usual hijinks of doodle painting. Doing a test run of Photoshop 6 and decided to paint a pretty girl dressed up in flowers. Not sure what I want to do with the bottom half of the dress...

At Sea

Birthday gift for my dad. Apologies for not scaling the size down much before uploading :p

Take 2: minor details added

Take 3: moved boat to the side

Take 4: And ANOTHER :P

Take 5: realized I had made some embarrassing errors with the anatomy of a boat. The bow is facing the viewer, so unless James Bond or Jason Bourne is at the helm, this vessel shouldn't be able to go backwards. Whoops. Nothing to see here, folks.

WIP: Mage (Fire & Ice)

Just so you can see where it started, I posted the previous versions up to now. I started with the usual block in, then I noticed problems with the pose and the folding of the fabric. Adding in the fire and ice magic will be fun! Done in photoshop.

Hearts on Fire & Ice (WIP?)

Suggestion/request made by a friend of a friend: An icicle that's stabbing a heart on fire. Here's my initial take... Is there enough fire? Can there ever be enough? *ponders*

Done in Photoshop.

Speedpaint - Fighter

Just a practice speedpaint. Didn't quite get all the details in, but I managed to block in most of the model. I cheated a bit and sampled colors from the photo since I just wanted to practice painting muscles... Done in Photoshop, 35 minutes.

Red Panda Attack!

Finished "Red Panda Attack" piece. Remember, it's good to attack with the sun to your back when ambushing your target.

WIP: Red Panda Attack!

An amusing image popped into my mind while looking for red panda reference. They're usually seen as curious and playful creatures, but what if they unleashed some kind of fuzzy fury?

NINJA PANDA

It's the last thing you will ever see...
